Dubai: The UAE Water Aid project has collected Dh111.35 million in donations in its 13th day. The initiative will provide clean drinking water to 5 million people in developing countries.
The UAE Water Aid project, which targets the provision of clean drinking water to five million people in 60 countries, was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on June 28.
The campaign has achieved 89 per cent of its target with 3,058 wells provided in areas that are in desperate need of water.
The Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation donated Dh2.25 million to the cause. Donations also came in from individuals, with a Dh500,000 contribution from Emirati Mohammad Al Sayah good enough to assure clean drinking water to 20,000 people. The Damas group also donated Dh500,000.
The Mohammad Bin Rashid Housing Establishment donated Dh200,000, enough to provide clean drinking water to 8,000 people. Al Habtoor Group, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Emirati Ahmad Saeed Al Mulla each donated Dh100,000, together assuring clean drinking water for 12,000 people. Employees from the Community Development Authority collected Dh55,850 in donations, which will serve the drinking water needs of 2,234 people.
The project was launched with Shaikh Mohammad highlighting the scarcity of clean drinking water that affects more than 880 million people around the world.
Since its launch, the UAE Water Aid project has garnered a positive response from both individuals and institutions, further reaffirming the UAE’s support for charitable causes and its leadership’s lead in humanitarian causes.
