UAE's identity card programme draws world attention
The success of the UAE's population registry and identity card programme has contributed to the country's reputation as one of the safest nations in the world.
Abu Dhabi: The success of the UAE's population registry and identity card programme has contributed to the country's reputation as one of the safest nations in the world.
This has attracted several countries to attend the upcoming global summit on ID programmes in Abu Dhabi, said Darwish Al Zarouni, Director General of Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA).
"About 35 countries will attend the summit, which shows that the world wants to know the UAE experience of the ID programme," he said. He was speaking at a press conference on the Citizen ID Forum, a global summit on government-driven ID programmes to be held on February 25 and 26 in Abu Dhabi.
"Our unique achievement like ISO 27001 certification for UAE ID cards is noteworthy and such an experience can be shared with others," said Al Zarouni.
It is being held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.
A panel of speakers from GCC countries will present their experience on secure ID documents during the summit, said Sophie B. de la Giroday of Wise Media, an international communications consultancy group that organises the summit.
The event is endorsed by European Commission, EIDA and Abu Dhabi Police. Brigadier Ahmad N.Al Raisi, General Director of General Directorate of Central Operation also attended the press conference.
