Dubai: There was no UAE resident from India among the hundreds of commuters killed or injured in the bomb blasts that tore apart Mumbai's trains on Tuesday.
About 700 families are spending their summers in India's financial capital, according to the Indian Consulate General in Dubai.
B.S. Mubarrak, consul at the Consulate, told Gulf News that the consulate has not received any reports of UAE residents involved in the attack so far.
"We haven't received any reports of residents involved or any calls from relatives in Dubai who could not get in touch with their family members," he said.
Community leaders catering for UAE residents from the state Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital, said they have not received any reports of injury or death involving residents, either.
Deepak VB, president of the Maharashtra Mandal Dubai Society, told Gulf News that it was still too early to know for sure if anybody in the UAE was affected.
"Give the consulate one or two days," he said.
There are an estimated 100,000 blue-collar workers and 10,000 families living in the UAE who come from India's state Maharashtra, which is part of Mumbai.
