Traders vow not to hike prices for Eid Al Adha
Livestock suppliers and key traders have signed a written pledge to keep stable prices and never to increase the prices during the festival of Eid Al Adha.
Ras Al Khaimah: Livestock suppliers and key traders have signed a written pledge to keep stable prices and never to increase the prices during the festival of Eid Al Adha.
The suppliers not only pledged to provide the emirate with its livestock needs but to increase the amount they bring in as well.
The signing of the pledge took place at the premises of Municipality where representatives from the Ministry of Economy, the Municipality, and the Department of Economic Development took part.
The suppliers will provide Ras Al Khaimah with more than its actual needs at reasonable prices without the sharp increases Eid normally brings.
Dr Hashem Al Nuaimi, who heads the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, said there was no justification for any possible increases in the price of the livestock during Eid.
He added that international prices of meat and livestock have been stable and that traders and suppliers should not use the religious occasion to increase prices.
He stressed that the pledges which were signed by the suppliers and traders were only precautionary measures as the Eid is the peak season where the demand for meat and livestock go up sharply.
Dr Al Nuaimi said that that the Consumer Protection Department in collaboration with various department expect to finalise a plan to control the markets and protect the families to reach reasonable prices for meat and livestock.
