Tenants facing eviction from a Discovery Gardens block appeal to landlord
Dubai: Tenants facing eviction from a Discovery Gardens block appealed to landlord Meraas to allow them to stay the course of a contract they signed with a broker who disappeared with Dh2 million rent money taken from them.
The Dubai Rent Committee ruled last week that Meraas had the right to evict 38 tenants from Building 219 of the Mogul cluster.
"We are requesting Meraas to have mercy on us. I've taken my annual housing allowance and paid the rent in one cheque to the broker who claimed to own the property," Dirk Jansz, a Sri Lankan father of three, said.
Osama Aborayah, the residents' lawyer, said the Dubai Land Department is yet to rule on the residents' complaint against the three agents. A Meraas official said they have yet to decide on the matter. - Jay B. Hilotin, Chief Reporter
