Sharjah: Standing in queue at the check-in counters at the Sharjah International Airport will be a thing of the past as the airport is on its way to become the first in the country to offer services through Common Use Self Service kiosks for all airlines.
These kiosks are designed to provide self check-in service for various airlines and are expected to be in operation by the end of this month.
The passengers after security screening, can choose the airline on kiosk's monitor, enter the ticket reference number and the kiosk will scan and read passenger's passport details.
Once verified, the passenger will be allowed to select seats, he or she can then enter baggage details and weigh the baggage, the baggage tags can be printed, passenger can print the ticket and the boarding pass, baggage with tags can be dropped at dedicated bag-drop locations and finally the passenger can then proceed for the immigration process.
The Self-Service kiosks once operational will be able to handle multiple airlines. It can process double the number of passengers per hour compared to the counters.
The airport will feature 12 such kiosks in its main dome and in the check-in hall.
