Sara Shurafa: Hoping for a happily ever after
Today, I will introduce myself, as I will be accompanying you through Gulf News's Wipe out Waste campaign. I hope to lead a life free of waste — as much as I can.

- My name is Sara. I am a 24-year-old, single woman, working full time in Dubai. I consider my lifestyle to be a normal one, which could be similar to any one of you. I wake up early, drive my sports utility vehicle (SUV) to work, pick up my coffee (which comes of course in a carton cup) and a bottle of water from a petrol station. I reach my office and before going upstairs, I smoke a cigarette.
Dubai: Today, I will introduce myself, as I will be accompanying you through Gulf News's Wipe out Waste campaign. I hope to lead a life free of waste — as much as I can.
First of all, my name is Sara.
The rest of my day is spent behind a desk, my breaks are spent on my phone or having lunch – which is of course delivered to me, as I do not cook. After work it is time for shisha or gym and my weekends are spent shopping, cleaning and dining out.
Until this moment, I thought that my life was not harmful to anyone. I was brought up to believe that the environment is someone else's problem, the solution will one day pop up and we will live happily ever after.
So this is one of the reasons I am taking up this challenge. I want to start trying to cut out waste, not just of objects, but also of money and time. I want to start being responsible for the health of Mother Earth.
It is a challenge that I accept.
You can follow Sara's attempts to Wipe out Waste in her daily blog, which begins on Monday, March 9
