Abu Dhabi: The Arabian Saluki Centre on Friday night announced the two most beautiful Arabian Saluki dogs in a beauty contest held on the sidelines of the annual Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex 2006).
The results of the first ever Arabian Saluki Beauty Contest in the Middle East were announced after the final round of a series of contests held since the beginning of the exhibition.
The Best in Show winners were Dasma, who won the Feathered Category, and Burkan, winning the Smooth Category. More than 100 Salukis from the UAE and neighbouring countries participated in daily contests, with 24 winners grabbing first, second and third positions in group contests.
The contests were conducted by Gilberto Grandi, President of the Italian Sight Hound Club.
"I was surprised to see such an excellent quality of breed. Almost all Salukis made an excellent overall impression, showed a defined body structure and elegant movement.
"I am aware that Salukis are mainly used for hunting rather than for show purposes in this region, however, all Salukis were in an excellent condition and were well looked after. The vast majority of these Salukis could without doubt compete in an international show," he said.
Hamad Al Ganem, Director, Breeder and Registrar General of the Arabian Saluki Centre, said he was pleased with the overall number of participants and visitors bearing in mind it was the first Saluki show in the region.
