Residential units for low-income nationals on way

Dubai: The municipality has finalised designs for 10 residential complexes which will cater to low-income UAE nationals.
Construction of the residential buildings will start in October in Al Quoz and Al Muhaisnah and will be ready by February 2008.
Abdul Rahman Sifai, Director of the Government Housing Department at the municipality, said it was the first time that apartment blocks were to be built for nationals.
"The project, the first of its kind in the emirate, is undertaken based upon instructions given by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, and Chairman of Dubai Municipality," he said.
The project, he added, consists of 10 residential complexes, each of them comprising 42 apartments in the first phase. Seven buildings will be built in Al Muhaisnah while the remaining three will be constructed in Al Quoz.
"Our studies have pointed out that there are a considerable number of national families that belong to the low income category in need of housing. We have conducted a survey among them to determine the type of housing they require and it was made clear to us that the best type would be apartment blocks," Al Sifai said.
He said similar projects would be launched in other areas if there was demand.
All apartments in these buildings will consist of three or four bedrooms, a servant's room and a store. Each complex will have a library and children's playground. To serve residents in both areas, there will be a mosque, a commercial complex and landscaping works.
