Ras Al Khaimah: Civic authorities seized a water distribution vehicle, and ordered its company to pay a Dh15,000 fine for selling leaking water containers.
Adel Al Deek, who heads the Environmental and Public Health Department at the municipality said municipal inspectors examined the 5 gallon water containers that the company sells and found that most of the containers were leaking water.
He added that the water leakage was harmful and subjected the containers to hazardous risks.
Repeat offence
Al Deek said while the municipal inspectors were inspecting the company, a water distribution vehicle arrived and they were able to inspect the water containers inside the vehicle. They discovered that they were all leaking water.
Municipal inspectors had earlier inspected another of the company's vehicles, and reported the same offence. An official warning was issued and the company signed an official pledge never to repeat the violation and carefully seal their water containers.
Al Deek said that the company never stood for the pledge that it had signed.
He added that the violating vehicle was seized and a fine of Dh10,000 was imposed, in addition to a Dh5,000 fine for the earlier violation which was added retroactively.
