Abu Dhabi: A 14-year-old boy who ran away from home after an argument with his father over school results, was returned home safely by Abu Dhabi Police.
Rares Baston, a British teenager, who ran away from home on June 3 was being sought after by the police for a week until he was found in a cinema hall by a police informant.
The parents of the teenager lodged a police complaint after the boy failed to return home after the fight. The argument began after Rares parents were called to his school to discuss his poor academic performance. Police said that dozens of officials and informers were commissioned to track down the boy and that they searched restaurants, commercial areas and cinema halls with brochures containing the boys photograph. Finally the boy was found on Monday evening.
Delinquency
Speaking with reference to the Baston case, Lieutenant Colonel Dr Khalid Said Al Naqbi, Chief of social support at the community police section said: "Family plays an important role in protecting children against delinquency and crime."
Urging parents to better communicate with their children, he said that basic education for children starts from family.
Parents significantly determine the character and personality of children and thus their future, Al Naqbi pointed out.
He said that instead of resorting to punishment and harsh measures, parents must communicate with children like friends and share their experiences. This will help enhance the lives of children and improve their self-confidence, he noted.
"At the same time, parents must control the children, especially adolescents. It is neglect and emptiness that leads to delinquency and crime," he said.
