Dubai: For the second day running, Gulf News readers continued to send in their first-hand reports and pictures of the fire that broke out on Thursday in a high-rise building under construction along Shaikh Zayed Road.
There were 70 personal accounts and 18 dramatic pictures from amateur journalists yesterday. But there were many more other contributions by our amateur newspersons which could not be accommodated on the web.
Gulf News reader Angela sent a horrific shot of a worker falling from the high-rise tower.
Kasidech Singprapan and David Renkwitz joined scores of others who sent pictures of workers on the top of the building and waiting to be rescued.
Several people submitted photos of the building emitting clouds of smoke as the rescue got underway.
Kamal, one reader working next to the Fortune Tower, said he was in his office when suddenly his colleague came in and shouted, "Fire! Fire! Then our manager told us to get out of the building."

Not only have readers turned journalists, but more and more are getting their news from the online version of the Gulf News. Just one story headlined, 'Tower Fire Traps Workers', got more than 9,400 people clicking on it.
Sam from Sharjah said, "I think construction workers should be given training on how to use the emergency lifts." Reader Tonmoy hoped that a high-level team will be formed to look into the safety factor of high-rises.
