Pharmacies selling expired milk products under fire

Ras Al Khaimah: Families complained against pharmacies that sell expired infant milk products and medications.

Parents lodged complaints with the Medical District and other concerned authorities with samples of the expired milk products and medications.

They said families often make the mistake of failing to check the production and expiry dates of the milk products and medications while purchasing.

Lack of an effective monitoring system gives the private pharmacies the chance to play with public health, they said.

The parents called on the authorities to be stricter with the violating pharmacies and force them to remove the expired milk products and medications from the shelves.

Emirati parents have been involved in disputes with private pharmacies after they found that they were given expired milk products and medications.

A number of cases were reported to the authorities where Emirati parents submitted complaints against such pharmacies.

The parents refused to accept the possible claims of the pharmacists that each product has an extra safety period during which it will be safe to use such goods.

They stressed that it was their right to purchase valid products as long as they pay full prices for the goods.

Abdullah Al Shahin, who heads the Medical District, said the Ministry of Health is currently working on improving the monitoring standards on the private pharmacies.

He said tough penalties will be imposed on the violating pharmacies to put an end to the offences of the private pharmacies.

Parents lodge complaint with Ras Al Khaimah Medical District against erring pharmacists and call for stricter penalties.
