Dubai: The Pakistani community is hosting “solidarity celebrations” to honour the UAE National Day for the second year in a row.
The events, again organised by Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), are scheduled between November 22 and December 13.
National Day falls on December 2 every year to mark the formation of the UAE after its independence from Britain in 1971. This year the UAE will celebrate its 42nd National Day.
PAD’s eight events include a solidarity walk, fun fair, health camp, and a blood donation drive, among others. Last year PAD held similar events in the run up to National Day.
This year there is desert fun drive on December 6 and a South Asian traditional wrestling match — kabaddi — for labourers in Sonapur on December 13.
PAD General Secretary Dr Faisal Ikram said he hopes there will be an Emirati chief guest at each event. The line up was revealed during a press conference at PAD’s Oud Metha premises on Tuesday.
“PAD represents the Pakistani community in the UAE, and our only aim is to show solidarity with the UAE. Pakistan and the UAE have historic and close relations,” Dr Ikram said.
“Pakistan was the first country to recognise the UAE when it was formed in 1971. The contributions of the people and government of Pakistan towards the UAE’s success are well-known — and vice versa. The bond is still there and stronger than before.”
He added: “Pakistanis are the only community who held a solidarity walk for National Day. It was a huge success and we are hoping to see 5,000 people turn up this time.”
The 1.5km walk will start at Pakistan Education Academy and end at PAD on November 29.
He added that PAD will raise more awareness about the events through social media and the press. More information is also expected soon on PAD’s website, pakassociationdubai.com
