Dubai: The Pakistani community in the UAE is being encouraged to make financial donations for the victims of the Balochistan earthquake that struck last Wednesday.

More than 215 people were killed and approximately 15,000 were made homeless by the devastating quake and more than 10,000 houses have been destroyed.

Professional Wing of the Pakistan Association Dubai has urged its members to donate at least Dh100, in addition to its previous effort collecting blankets, tents and new clothes, to provide an extra 200 blankets.

Meanwhile, a relief camp has also been established at the association to collect donations and relief goods on Oud Metha Road in Dubai.

"Residents from different communities have already starting donating clothes, medicines and blankets but the response has been slow. We urge the community to respond quickly because winter is taking toll of the shelterless people in the quake affected areas," said a spokesperson of the association.

In association with the Consulate General in Dubai, the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan has also appealed to the Pakistani community, and has established two bank accounts for cash donations.

How to donate

- To donate in Pakistani Rupees: Account number 294-2. Bank name: National Bank of Pakistan, Prime Minister's Secretariat, Islamabad.

- To donate in US dollars: Account number 15-02-130-0009-4. Bank name: Askari Bank Ltd. Bewerly Centre, Islamabad.

-The Red Cross said on Sunday that $7.8 million (Dh28.6 million) in emergency funding is needed to provide shelter as the winter months begin.
