Owners of stray animals face the heat
The Municipal Council on Sunday banned stray animals from residential areas and gave livestock owners a month's grace period to achieve compliance.
Ras Al Khaimah: The Municipal Council on Sunday banned stray animals from residential areas and gave livestock owners a month's grace period to achieve compliance.
"Stray animals [will be] no more tolerated [in] residential areas," said Abdullah Al Naqbi, Undersecretary of the Municipal Council.
The council had come up with a list of places, which included a number of residential areas, from where stray animals were banned but that was not enough.
Al Naqbi said the ban followed strict instructions from Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, to protect public and private property and to prevent road accidents.
"The livestock owners are given a month's grace period to collect their stray animals from the streets, after which the authorities will act tough to root out the practice," he said.
Strict measures
"The existence of animals is only allowed in houses and farms," he said, adding that special barns should be prepared for the purpose.
Al Naqbi said the order bans all types of livestock, including camels, cows, goats, sheep and chicken, from straying on the streets.
"The municipality and other ... departments have registered a number of complaints about ... stray animals," he said. Errant livestock owners will be fined after the grace period.
