Dubai: More than 500 privately-owned super and luxury cars and bikes will create a convoy during the inaugural Dubai Grand Parade on Friday.

The first multi-brand parade of its type in Dubai is part of the debut Dubai Motor Festival, a week-long motoring extravaganza held in conjunction with Dubai International Motor Show, which is running at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) until Saturday.

The parade vehicles’ total value is anticipated to reach more than Dh500 million. The fleet includes more than 350 brands and models such as Bugatti Veyron, the world’s fastest street car; Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Maserati, Shelby Super Cars, Harley Davidson and Ducati.

The parade will be led by the 2013 Formula One constructors’ champion Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula One Car, which will deliver a brief performance when it leads the parade from its starting point — the Trade Centre Roundabout on Shaikh Zayed Road — to the first interchange.

The parade will then be led by Dubai Police’s fleet of green and white supercars through the remainder of the route. Entries for the parade have come from private collectors, local owners and Dubai’s automobile clubs.

Some of the participating cars include an exclusive Lamborghini Murcielago LPO640, the Middle East’s only one of its type; a Range Rover Sport that is covered with UAE dirham coins; a Swarovski crystal-encrusted Hummer H2; a vintage Saxon dating back to 1912; and a restored 1972 Land Rover 88.

The convoy will embark on a 45-kilometre tour of Shaikh Zayed Road and beyond, passing several Dubai landmarks such as Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa during an hour-long route ending at DWTC.

The public can watch the parade at two spectator zones at Madinat Jumeirah (cars expected at 3.15pm) and Downtown Dubai (cars expected at 3.30pm).

They can also get up close to the vehicles, including the Infinity Red Bull Racing Formula One Car, at the post-parade Car Gallery, which opens at DWTC from 5pm.

Public safety along the route will be managed by Dubai Police, which has issued advisory messages to drivers urging them to use alternative routes during the parade.Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Motor Festival is presented by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

Following the Dubai Grand Parade, the public can visit the Motor Show, where there are 600 vehicles on display.
