Sharjah: A newborn girl was found abandoned in an elevator, a senior health official revealed on Sunday. Sharjah Police have launched an investigation and are searching for her parents.
The 8-day-old baby was discovered in an Al Nahda residential building in Sharjah on Thursday, and is currently in the care of Al Qasimi Hospital.
Difficult task
"It is difficult to know what nationality the baby is because she is too young to show any specific facial features," a spokesperson at Al Qasimi Hospital said.
"She is currently under our care and we will provide all the necessary nursing care and treatment until we receive further notice from the police," he said, pointing out that she is healthy and is doing fine.
Police have launched an investigation into the whereabouts of the baby's parents. If the parents are not found, the baby will be placed in the custody of the Family Development Centre at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
Hospital officials said the Family Development Centre has a special department dedicated to taking care of orphans and abandoned children.
The Family Development Centre operates under the patronage of Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
