New stores at temporary Naif site ready
The newly-built stores at the temporary Naif Souq are almost ready and will soon be handed over to their respective owners.
Dubai: The newly-built stores at the temporary Naif Souq are almost ready and will soon be handed over to their respective owners.
The temporary arrangements have been made some 500 metres away from where the original souq stood. It was destroyed in a fire on April 2 leaving over 150 shop owners without livelihood.
The new souq will be constructed in the same place where the old Naif Souq stood. It will feature additional shops, facilities and safety features and is expected to be ready within a year.
Speaking to Gulf News Abdul Amir Redha Fadhlani, head of the building maintenance and facilities section, of the general maintenance department, Dubai Municipality said that the temporary Naif souq had been completed in record time.
"Usually it takes more than five months to erect a temporary souq but we got it done within a few months. "The temporary one will have fire alarms, fans and several exit points. It has about 200 shops," said Fadhlani. "The temporary souq is perfect. The stores are much bigger, they are about 12x12sq metres while the old ones were about 10x10 sq metres. "We also have a mosque within the premises," said Faisal a shop owner.
