Abu Dhabi: More than 1,000 women or 25 per cent of the electoral college will get to vote in the elections for the Federal National Council, a minister said.
"The FNC elections, which will be held by the end of this year, are a crucial step in paving the way for wider representation of citizens. The process will encourage contribution of a generation of young leaders and will, for the first time, witness the participation of women in the FNC," said Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for FNC Affairs.
He was speaking after a meeting of the National Election Committee (NEC).
The committee, chaired by Dr Gargash, met for the second time since its establishment to outline an action plan for the elections.
