March Meeting unites artists, institutions again

Sharjah Art Foundation hosts the third edition of the annual March Meeting

Last updated:

Sharjah: Art institutions and professionals have come together under one roof as part of the third annual March Meeting organised by Sharjah Art Foundation.

The Sharjah Art Foundation in association with ArteEast yesterday launched the annual gathering of art professionals and institutions.

The event was inaugurated by the Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation Jack Persekian. The three-day programme commenced yesterday and ends on Monday. The agenda features presentations by key note speakers, seminars and public discussions.

The annual event combines a number of artists and independent curators and includes more than fifty art institutions in the Middle East and north Africa.

"The March Meeting is establishing itself in the Middle East's cultural calendar as the annual platform for individuals and institutions alike to exchange ideas and create connections. This year's gathering will build on the success of past editions and underpins the Sharjah Art Foundation's objective of nurturing the arts and culture in the Gulf through a programme of regional and international exchange and collaboration," said Persekian.

A chain of public discussions will be held by key note speakers, such as the Moroccan scholar, art critic and author Abdul Fattah Kilito and internationally celebrated curator and art critic Okwui Enwezor. This year the event will witness for the first time "Dardashat", the informal project discussions which will run alongside formal presentations by institutions and art professionals.

A commissioned film about the Sharjah Biennial 9 that traces a visual itinerary through many projects, installations and activities of the previous edition was screened at the opening.
