Sharjah: Police arrested a man on Saturday in connection with thefts of money and other valuable items from cars parked in sandy areas in Sharjah, an official at Sharjah Police said.
The suspect, an Indian national, would break windows of vehicles to unlock car doors and steal valuables.
Police have appealed to people not to leave valuables in cars or to keep their engines running when they leave their vehicles unattended.
Officials said several car owners had lodged complaints with police saying that they had lost money, jewellery and other valuables kept in cars after they had parked in sandy areas alongside buildings or on roadsides while they were away at work or visiting friends and relatives.
Vehicle theft complaints have been reported from different locations across the emirate, officials said.
Police said they arrested the suspect after catching him red-handed. After his arrest, police said the suspect confessed to other thefts.
The case has been referred to public prosecution.
