Ras Al Khaimah: An Indian worker fell from the eighth-floor of a high-rise under construction and died under concrete blocks which fell on him from a crane, police said.

The 27-year-old victim was taken to Saqr Hospital but was declared dead.

The accident occurred at a building on Oman Street in Al Nakheel area. Investigations are on and his colleagues and witnesses have been called for questioning.

The construction of the eighth floor had been completed and the man was cleaning up. He had taken the construction debris and was emptying it in a container attached to the crane, witnesses said.

One witness said that as he emptied the debris into the container, the crane moved, overturning the container and he fell. He was crushed under the debris.

His colleagues tried desperately to dig him out. Police were called and he was dug out of the rubble.

The Public Prosecutor began an investigation into the incident. He later authorised the victim's body be delivered to his family and friends for burial.
