Dubai: Residents of Jumeirah have complained about interruptions in internet connections for the past few days but Etisalat has said that the area does not face any downtime.
Subscribers of Etisalat's Al Shamil DSL services in Jumeirah and its surrounding areas in Dubai have said that their internet connections have either dropped or are experiencing slowness since Tuesday night.
Emirati Hesham Ahmad said that he was experiencing difficulties accessing the internet since last week's rainstorm, and the connection was entirely dropped Tuesday night. "It started becoming very slow initially and would keep disconnecting, but it completely stopped working on Tuesday," Ahmad said he called Etisalat's helpline and was told that the area was experiencing "problems."
Contacted by Gulf News, an Etisalat public relations official said that no irregular number of complaints was filed from the area, and that there was no problem there.
Interior decorator Maha, also a Jumeirah resident, said: "Our connection at home had been intermittent for the past couple of days and stopped Tuesday night." Jumeirah 2 resident Nadia also had a similar experience of an unstable connection followed by downtime. "I noticed that the DSL line on my modem had been off," she said.
Jim Clay, an IT professional from Scotland, said he was experiencing difficulties in his Umm Suqeim home too. "I am getting a PPPoE error for around four nights and can't connect to the internet."
A PPPoE error could indicate an incorrect username or password, incorrect router settings, an inability to locate the internet service provider [ISP] server, or a lack of response from the ISP server.
