Abu Dhabi: Residents over the age of 15 years in the emirate of Abu Dhabi must apply for an Emirates ID card before Sunday or face a fine of Dh20 per day up to a maximum amount of Dh1,000, the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) said in a statement on Thursday.
To avoid fines or "delay fees", residents must fill out an e-form at a registered typing centre in the emirate or apply on their own through the Eida website on or before tomorrow.
Eida also called on employees of private companies operating within the free zones in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to register for ID cards or renew their expired cards before the end of the deadline set for each emirate. In Dubai, the registration deadline is June 1.
On the other hand, children below the age of 15 years across the UAE must be registered for ID cards before October 1.
The deadline given to Abu Dhabi residents is part of a schedule announced in September 2011 for completing Emirates ID registrations for the entire population. Dubai residents were urged not to wait until the last minute to register.
The Eida statement added that the population register and ID card project is a strategic national initiative aimed at enhancing national and individual security, keeping an accurate population register, supporting decision-making and providing innovative online services.
