Dubai: XPRESS readers have again shown they have a big heart.

Desperate appeals made by two residents for help in the June 13 edition of XPRESS have generated huge response, with calls and letters pouring in for their cause.

Ali Mohammed Shafi, a Pakistani resident who had appealed for funds to get a liver transplant for his seventh-month-old son Adel, said he is touched by the number of calls since the story was published.

“People are good-hearted. One Arab woman gave me Dh10,000.

Others contributed varying amounts from Dh200 to Dh2,000. So far, I have collected Dh25,000 but I have a long way to go as I need Dh100,000 for Adel’s surgery. Inshallah, I should be able to take him to India for treatment soon.”

He said Adel, who suffers from a congenital liver disease is currently in a Sharjah hospital. “I hope he recovers soon with everyone’s help and prayers.”

Meanwhile, XPRESS readers have also reached out to Gaganlal Om Prakash, a 36-year-old Indian being treated for a severe abdominal infection in a Dubai hospital.

The ailing labourer, who wanted to go back to Punjab to be with his three children, had pleaded for financial help for continued treatment in India.

Pam Gouri of the NGO Valley of Love, who is co-ordinating for Gaganlal, said she had received over 25 calls since last Thursday. “The support is very heartening,” she said. “We are waiting for the family in Punjab to let us know the extent of help received so far.”
