Haya to visit Lebanese refugees in Syria
Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, Wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will travel to Syria to highlight the plight of refugees, who have fled war-torn Lebanon.
Dubai: Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, Wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will travel to Syria to highlight the plight of refugees, who have fled war-torn Lebanon. In her capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Princess Haya is scheduled to meet with Lebanese refugees who fled their country as a result of widespread Israeli attacks. She will be accompanied by WFP Executive Director James Morris.
WFP distributes food
According to the UN, there are approximately 140,000 Lebanese refugees currently in Syria, who have fled from their country over the past three weeks. WFP started distributing food aid to 7,000 refugees stranded in Damascus on Monday. The agency hopes to increase the reach of their food aid to 20,000 in the coming days.
WFP will distribute three tonnes of bread each day to refugees living in schools and public buildings. It is also prioritising assistance to 95,000 displaced people seeking shelter in public institutions in Beirut.
