If you are a gamer and you can spare a few minutes to collect 20 chips from an online game, you might just be able to help feed two people for one day in the drought-stricken Sahel region of West Africa.
‘Compete To Feed’ is an online game developed by Lay’s Max that allows the public to compete against their friends to collect as many chips as possible to contribute to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to help feed the region.
Nearly 10 million people in eight countries namely Niger, Mauritania, Chad, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and Gambia, need food assistance as drought has returned to the Sahel region for the third time in recent years making a famine situation even worse.
“It is alarming to see the scale of the challenge faced by WFP in tackling the hunger crisis in the Sahel region. We wanted to provide the public and our customers with an easy way to support WFP’s noble cause,” said Omar Abu Al Hassan, marketing manager, Saudi Snack Foods.
“You can help feed those in need from the comfort of your own home by visiting the website and playing this simple game. We are honoured to contribute to the international efforts to fight hunger,” he added.
“With the prompt action and support of our partners and the global community we hope to avert a major humanitarian crisis. Lay’s Max ‘Compete To Feed’ is an excellent initiative and I urge everyone to find a few minutes to take part,” said Ashraf Hamouda, head of WFP partnerships and business development, Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Gamers may visit www.laysarabia.com/max to play the game. They have six weeks to play and make a difference.
