Dubai: To encourage creativity among Dubai Police’s employees, including civilian workers, the fifth edition of Dubai Police’s Contest for Research Excellence was announced on Monday.
The contest aims to use the creativity and research skills of members of Dubai Police to enrich the Dubai Police library, Brigadier Dr Mohammad Abdullah Al Murr, Director of the General Department of Human Rights and head of the contest’s committee, said at a press conference.
The contest has a set of topics, all related to police work, that the contestants can choose from. They have to produce a minimum of a 10,000 word research piece, which should not exceed 15,000 words. The research must follow the rules of scientific research and include basic references.
This year, Brig Al Murr said, they have introduced three new topics: the possible dangers that can arise when hosting Expo 2020, laws that are connected to police work and cases that have been a source of concern for Dubai Police recently.
There are now a total of 14 research topics, which include risk management in police work, governance in policing institutions, the results of activities concerning excellence and quality, and Six Sigma Strategy (6 Sigma) in police work.
Dubai Police will accept entries from May 1 to October 16.
Brig Al Murr said that the total amount of the prize was raised to Dh100,000, with Dh30,000 for the first place, 20,000 for second and Dh10,000 for third. Researchers who come in the fourth to tenth places will also receive prizes.
The award was established with the support of Dubai Police General Headquarters, represented by the General Department of Total Quality.
