Dubai: A million dollar has been raised for the UAE Red Crescent Authority in the Sorouh Faces campaign.
A poster comprising one million faces, currently the biggest in the world, was unveiled. Pictures were sent in by the public, and for every face received, Sorouh Real Estate donated $1 dollar.
The scheme was launched under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA).
The money will be used to maintain the homes of underprivileged residents in the northern emirates.
Masood Al Awar, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Sorouh, said: “We've formed an excellent partnership with Red Crescent, to help underprivileged people to maintain their homes. In creating the biggest poster in the world, we have invited every sector of society to contribute towards the donation. So we're not the only ones who have given a donation, but the million people that have uploaded their faces are socially responsible, because they are helping to build communities.''
Abu Dhabi-based Sorouh presented RCA with the cheque for this new fund, which will be managed by the charitable organization.
Mohammed Al Zaroni, General Manager, RCA, said: “We will give the money to the people that need it, across all the emirates. There are about 30 people who will receive aid: we have visited their houses and have seen what needs to be done. Maintenance on buildings that are 25-30 years old will be done and we will be constructing new rooms within the houses for expanding families.''
There are currently five houses in Dubai that will be renovated. The other properties are in Fujeirah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman.
Maintenance work on the properties will commence next month. They have been sourced from the RCA database.
