E-governance 'needs dedicated minister to streamline services'
The Chief of Dubai Police has suggested a minister for e-government when a new ministerial set-up is expected to be announced next month.

Dubai: The Chief of Dubai Police has suggested a minister for e-government when a new ministerial set-up is expected to be announced next month.
Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said the responsibility of the minister should be focused on developing government electronic services.
He was speaking at the electronic governments conference in Abu Dhabi.
The minister should also play an active role in designing information technology which provides a high-quality database, the police chief said.
Lt Gen Dahi described his suggestion as modern and said the country needs it due to the technological developments taking place in various fields.
He said the presence of a specialised minister in this field will play an important role in assisting the e-government provide excellent services to the public.
Lieutenant General Dahi said he is reiterating his suggestion due to its importance, as he had suggested this many years ago.
He said from his point of view, Dubai e-government needs to develop its performance and abilities and improve its services.
Multipurpose gadget
The police chief suggested that e-government needs to convert its electronic services which can be transferred on mobile phones in a way that mobile phones become one of the methods of providing various services.
The services should include information on traffic jams and ways to avoid them, weather forecast and transactions for government departments, said Lt Gen Dahi.
