- K9 Friends, currently based in Al Barsha, has been given land in Al Quoz to build a shelter.
Dubai: The Dubai Government has offered K9 Friends a lifeline by providing land to build a purpose built dog welfare shelter, said Jackie Ratcliffe, the group's chairwoman.
"We received a telephone call from the Dubai Government office at 11am on Tuesday and by 4.30pm it was all done. The new shelter will be located in Al Quoz and will be funded by the Dubai Government," said Ratcliffe.
She said the government has shown real concern for animal welfare in the region and has pledged to help the group.
The group, currently based in Al Barsha, was served an eviction notice. The deadline for them to move out was May 31.
"Dubai Government has also arranged for a year's extension of the lease to allow time to get the new facility," said Ratcliffe.
The K9 Friends Committee said: "We are incredibly grateful to the Dubai Government for their concern and support of our organisation.
"This is another example of Dubai leading the way forward within the Middle East. Please be assured all the money donated will be put to good use."
