Dubai: The Dubai Municipality has found violations related to alterations in buildings without prior approval and also illegal usage of services and buildings during its inspections.
The Building Inspection Section, which issued almost 4,000 notices last year, continues to monitor usage of buildings across the emirate.
The department wants to ensure that whenever changes are made, there is need for prior permission so that safety and aesthetics are not compromised, said Jaber Ahmad Abdullah, acting head of Building Inspections Section of the Buildings Department.
"The current campaign focuses on the demolition and removal of abandoned buildings and yards as they pose a big threat to the safety, health and security of the public. Based on the latest statistics, number of such buildings and yards reached 500, out of which the municipality has removed 160," he said.
"It is necessary for the government and community to join together to get rid of all types of building violations and any one can report such violations calling the municipality's hotline: 800 900," he added.
