The Emirates Medical Student Society (EMSS) blood donation campaign attracted more than 500 donors and was extended for an extra day.
Dubai: The Emirates Medical Student Society (EMSS) blood donation campaign attracted more than 500 donors and was extended for an extra day.
The inaugural camp was held at the Universal Empire Institute of Medical Sciences (UEIMS) Knowledge Village campus on 10 June, and attracted 204 donors.
Shiblu Shamsudeen, President, EMSS, said: "The response was so great that people had to leave without being able to donate due to the time constraints. Additionally people came to Knowledge Village the following two days as well and they were redirected to Al Wasl Hospital, Dubai. As our first major event I would like to state it as a massive success with the total number of donors being 506 which is undoubtedly the largest number of donors received at such an event."
On the 11th and 12 June, camps were set up in Al Wasl Hospital in association with Dubai Medical College. On the 11th a second camp was conducted at GMC Hospital Ajman. The conclusion of the event was to be on the 14th of June with a Blood Camp set up by RAK Medical and Health Sciences University and a Blood Donation Awareness Campaign conducted by the University of Sharjah.
However, due to demand, an extra day was added on 15 June.
The awareness campaign was designed to promote regular blood donation and its significance in the region, as well as the prevalence of thalassemia and other blood-related disorders.
