Airport drizzle annoys passengers
While rains brought in cooler weather and cheer among residents, it was not a pleasant experience for some air travellers when parts of the roof started leaking inside the Dubai International Airport.
Dubai: While rains brought in cooler weather and cheer among residents, it was not a pleasant experience for some air travellers when parts of the roof started leaking inside the Dubai International Airport.
The roof at several areas inside the airport, especially in the corridors leading to the 'Arrival' zone was leaking heavily and there was water logging inside.
Airport staff were seen placing barricades, buckets and cans in the affected area.
Staff said the leaks were a result of heavy downpour which the roof was unable to sustain.
"We are trying to fix it. It is taking time because the rain is still continuing," said an official on the condition of anonymity.
Passengers said they were surprised to see leaks inside the airport.
"It was shocking to see such heavy leaks in three to four places inside the airport. I was trying not to slip because water was spreading out on the floor," said Ahmad Hassan, a passenger who arrived from Mumbai.
Daniel Pinto, another passenger, said the airport was not equipped to handle rain.
"Now that, the emirate is receiving rain seasonally, our constructions should be suitable for all kinds of weather," said Pinto.
Fatima Hussain, who arrived on Wednesday night said even the way leading to the car park was flooded. "My children were playing in the water all the way to the car," she said.
