Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Municipality has launched an integrated municipal solid waste management programme to improve the overall level of service and to reduce the impacts on the environment, said a statement issued by the municipality.

The vision is to develop a network of modern waste treatment and disposal facilities based on innovative technologies that have minimum environmental impacts.

The service will be simple, easy and convenient to be used by residents and enhances the prevention and reuse of waste resources prior to recycling, composting and recovery, with disposal only being a last resort.

The first phase of the programme covers two key components of integrated solid waste management, namely: collection, transportation and street cleaning; recycling, treatment and disposal.
