Dubai: The Gregorian year 2008 will see three Hijri years, Arabic daily Al Khaleej said quoting Jordanian Astronomical Society on Sunday.

The last nine days of Dhu Al Hijja 1428 will fall in the first days of January 2008, and then to be followed by the Hijri year of 1429, the society said in a statement.

The last days of December 2008 will see the start of the Hijri year 1430.

This means that year 2008 will see the end of 1428, the complete year of 1429 and the beginning of 1430, the society explained in its statement.

Having three Hijri years in a Gregorian year happens once every 33 years, which means 2041 will have three lunar years.
