Zayed energy prize jury selects two winners
The Zayed Future Energy Prize jury has selected two finalists to be the first-ever recipients of the award.
Abu Dhabi: The Zayed Future Energy Prize jury has selected two finalists to be the first-ever recipients of the award.
The prize was launched in January 2008 at the World Future Energy summit by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Sup-reme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to honour the legacy of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
It aims to recognise outstanding individuals, companies, and organisations that have made significant contributions in the global response to the future of energy.
Innovative
The seven-member jury, chaired by Nobel laureate Dr. R.K. Pachauri, selected two winners from a pool of 204 applicants.
Submissions were received from over 50 countries in every region of the world including the UK, the US, Australia, China and Bangladesh. The pool of 204 submissions demonstrated innovative and inspirational leadership in presenting solutions to future energy challenges.
The individuals and companies that submitted proposals represent a range of achievements including advancements in the commercialisation of renewable technologies and innovative research in alternative energy technology.
The two finalists represent the best from an exceptional group of forward-thinking individuals and companies.
The first winner will receive a cash prize of $1.5 million (Dh5.5 million) and the runner-up will receive $350,000 at a ceremony to be held on January 19 which marks the opening of the world future energy summit.
