  • Residents in Dubai made the most of the sunny weather on Saturday. The Met office said temperatures are likely to go down today.

Abu Dhabi: Open areas in the country will see dusty weather today, according to weathermen.

North-westerly winds will continue over most of the areas, causing dust or sand to rise, said a National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) spokesman in Abu Dhabi.

Western areas and islands will experience partly cloudy weather, he said.

"In general, it will be a pleasant weather during the day, but it will be very cold at night."

Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf will be rough with wave heights of three to five feet onshore and eight to 12 feet offshore, said the spokesman.

"Conditions in the Gulf of Oman will be moderate to rough with wave heights of two to three feet onshore and four to seven feet offshore".

Meanwhile, some internal and western areas of the country experienced poor visibility yesterday evening.

"The north-westerly winds caused sand or dust to rise over those areas," the spokesman said. They caused significant fall in temperature as well, said he said.

"The weather was cloudy to partly cloudy over most of the areas." There was no fog yesterday morning, so flight operations were smooth at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Andrew Chupeau, a spokesman for Abu Dhabi Airport Company, told Gulf News.

There was no delay, diversion or cancellation of flights, Tom Clarke, Etihad Airways spokesman, said.

Sharjah coldest

Heavy fog had disrupted flight operations at the airport for three days. Several flights had either been diverted or cancelled. Many flights were delayed.

The airport has the capacity to operate flights even if the visibility drops to 125 metres, but it had dropped to 100 metres on Thursday morning, said the spokesman.

The NCMS spokesperson said the lowest minimum temperature of 11 degree Celsius was recorded in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah on Saturday morning.

Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman recorded 12 degree Celsius. Umm Al Quwain recorded 13 degrees and the highest minimum temperature of 17 degree Celsius was recorded in Fujairah. The highest maximum temperature of 30 degrees was recorded in Fujairah yesterday morning.

Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah recorded 24 degrees. Sharjah and Ajman recorded 23 degrees. Abu Dhabi recorded the lowest maximum temperature of 21 degrees.
