Compeitition will award schools that have excelled in promoting environment

On its third year, the annual competition which is a part of the Bee’ah School of Environment initiative aims to recognise and honour schools within Sharjah who have excelled in academic excellence, school spirit, and projects in promoting the environment.
“We have created the Sharjah Environmental Awareness Award to honour the schools in Sharjah for their environmentally sustainable projects, so as to encourage both teachers and students to work together and set their school as a leading example within our community,” said Meera Taryam, Awareness and Education Manager at Bee’ah.
The annual event is also an ongoing competition designed to help teachers coach pupils on environmental responsibility using Bee’ah School of Environment programmes and activities.
Over the recent years, more than 60 different schools and nurseries have participated, with over 18 schools awarded for their outstanding efforts towards protecting the environment.
Such schools have actively involved their students in a range of creative and educational projects in all aspects of the environment including preserving natural resources, reducing waste disposal, conserving water and protecting biodiversity.
Winners will be announced at a closing ceremony on the occasion of the World Environment Day on June 5.
Each of the winning schools will receive cash prizes of Dh 30,000 for first place while second place will receive Dh 15,000 along with a prestigious award trophy and certificate of recognition for their sustainable achievements.
