The UAE was hit by heavy rain early yesterday that made travelling treacherous for commuters.
Forecasters have warned that there may be more showers in the next few days thanks to a jet stream weather system over the country.
A total of 3.2mm of rain fell yesterday in Dubai between 5.30 and 7.30am, according to meteorologists at the city's international airport.
It disrupted some commuters and drenched those travelling to work by motorbike.
The rain meant that yesterday was the eighth day in February with showers, although forecasters said this was typical for winter.
Meteorologists expected more rain last night and this morning and said there was a chance the showers could be heavy. However, they said that if there were showers, they were not likely to continue into late this morning.
Thereafter, there are likely to be several dry days until Saturday, when some evening showers are predicted.
"The showers we are having at the moment are associated with an upper level jet stream, which means very strong winds in the upper level of the atmosphere between 30,000 and 40,000 feet. These cause clouds and then rain to fall," the duty forecaster said.
"The amount of rain we had in February is not unusual - it's quite normal to have rain on and off throughout the winter."
The maximum temperature in Dubai yesterday was 26.7C and the minimum was 20.2C.
Heavy cloud cover associated with the rain meant that heat was retained during the night and the minimum temperature was slightly higher than the average for late February, the duty forecaster said.
Today, the minimum temperature is expected to be slightly lower than yesterday at 18C - as the cloud cover lessens and more heat is lost after dark - while the maximum is likely to be 26C.
The first rain last month fell on February 13, when 0.6mm was recorded at Dubai International Airport.
Meteorologists said there was a trace of rain the day after, followed by 1.2mm of water on February 15.
There were showers on February 16 followed by light rain - less than 0.2mm each day - on February 23, 24 and 25.
