Al Ain/Dubai: Unsettled weather conditions are expected to prevail in the UAE for the next 24 hours, with isolated rain and thunderstorms, an officer at the Dubai Meteorological Office said on Sunday.
Overnight and early morning rain surprised people in Dubai, Sharjah and other northern emirates.
The current cloudy condition is due to mid-level moisture in the air, which is not unusual as this time of the year. "Temperature tends to pick up this time of the year, coupled with moisture it results to thunderstorms," the Met officer said.
Light rain hit Dubai at around 2am for a brief period and later on Sunday morning. According to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), Sharjah also received light rain at around 4am.
The weather system kept moving towards the north and Ras Al Khaimah experienced light rain around 7am.
It was dry and hot in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain on Sunday morning, with clouds hovering.
The weathermen also forecast chances of scattered rain in different parts of the emirates until Monday morning.
People have been advised to stay away from the sea as it is rough with several feet high waves.
