Dubai: The day-time temperature touched a high of 45 degree Celsius in some areas of the Emirates on Tuesday, much above average for May, but luckily it will be very dry and comfortable for a couple of days because of low humidity.
It is usually 39 degree Celsius at this time of year, according to the duty forecaster at the Dubai Met Office. Humidity is at an all-time low at seven degrees, making it very dry but comfortable, according to the duty forecaster at the Dubai met Office.
It touched 45 degree Celsius in some areas such as Jebel Ali and Minhad Airforce Station outside Dubai. While in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi it was a degree cooler at 44 degree Celsius.
According to the Sharjah weather bureau, things will soon heat up more, touching 48 degree Celsius early June. "The all-time high in June in Sharjah was 49.2 degree Celsius in 1979," said the duty forecaster. "This is the dry-air season," he said, noting that "summer is here".
When humidity climbs, doctors advise people to stay out of the sun so as not to dehydrate. The elderly and the young are vulnerable to the heat and doctors advise sipping water and using sun lotions and moisturizers.
The UV Index is at 10. This index is an international measurement to show how strong the ultraviolet radiation from the Sun is. Excessive exposure at this time cause sunburns, eye damage such as cataracts, skin aging and skin cancer.
Mid-day the winds will be north-easterly and late evenings there will be mild south-easterly breeze. Waves offshore will be 1 to 2 feet. "There will be no significant change in the marine weather for next two to three days," said the forecaster.
"Overland it will be absolutely settled weather over the next couple of days."
Have you been feeling the heat lately? Has the temperature risen compared to the same time last year?
Your comments
I don't think they are taking into account the city heat index because its much hotter than that wherever there are no trees and in parking lots. The temperature was 47 degrees at 2:45pm yesterday near the bus station.

Global warming at its best, since my car's always out in the sun it takes approximately half an hour for the AC to actually start cooling the car in the afternoon. i'm wondering how's the weather turnup going to be when it hits July, hope the labours working outside take care of themselves as heat exhaustion cases would increase
