Fishermen told to avoid 'red tide' areas
The Higher Fishing Committee has instructed fishermen not to fish in areas affected by the "red tide" phenomenon.

Ras Al Khaimah: The Higher Fishing Committee has instructed fishermen not to fish in areas affected by the "red tide" phenomenon.
"Red tide" takes its name from the reddish colour of affected water, which is invaded by a rapid spread of micro-organisms.
In a meeting for the committee held at the Municipality, fishermen were advised to go only to unaffected areas to ensure public health is not endangered.
The meeting warned that huge quantities of fish would die in the infected areas and they would be unfit for human consumption.
The meeting was held to highlight the precautions that should be taken to deal with the phenomenon and the organisation of the fishing sector - taking into account the possible threats of "red tide."
A top municipal official said "red tide" had reached an increasing number of areas in Ras Al Khaimah and had become a real threat. The official said that fishermen found trying to catch fish in these areas would face tough consequences.
