Abu Dhabi: About 1,200 people working on the Abu Dhabi Beach project were pleased to be given more time yesterday to apply the finishing touches to the project.

The inauguration of the spacious public park on the corniche, which was due to take place today, has been postponed until Wednesday, Abu Dhabi Municipality's public relations department told Gulf News yesterday.

As announced earlier, the launch will be marked with the cutting of the world's longest inaugural ribbon at 5pm.

The postponement is nothing to do with the completion of the work but to make better arrangements for the inaugural ceremony, a top official told Gulf News yesterday.

"The work has almost been completed," said Abdullah Al Shamsi, Director of the Municipal Roads and Infrastructure Department at Abu Dhabi Municipality.

It is happy news as we get some more time to perfect our finishing touches, said Osama Sami of Hyder Consulting Middle East Limited, resident engineer for the project.
