Transguard employees allege mistreatment
A number of employees at the Transguard Group in Dubai have complained of low salaries and mistreatment by their employer.
Dubai: A number of employees at the Transguard Group in Dubai have complained of low salaries and mistreatment by their employer.
"The management is ignorant and mistreating us," said one.
"We are informed that we will not get any salary increment whatever our efforts," said one employee.
A Transguard employee said the management is not adhering to the country's rules regarding the rights of its employees. They said the management informed all security staff the federal law has not been implemented in Dubai which means the minimum wage will not affect any Transguard staff in Dubai.
A note issued by the management stated all employees' salaries will remain the same. The note also informed employees that if they do not want to work for Transguard, then they may resign, purchase their own air ticket home and work 30 days' notice before any resignation is accepted.
"Companies should have a standard salary for all employees working in the same kind of work, but in Transguard it is the opposite," the employees said.
"I am really disappointed and it has demoralised my working ability to perform well," another worker said.
He said he has earned a basic salary of Dh635 a month for more than a year.
"I have colleagues who have been working for more than three to four years with no increment. So far, the living standard in Dubai is so high and I wonder what I am going to eat, save or send to my family back home," he said.
In response, the Transguard Group said it is difficult to comment on salaries without specific information on the individuals concerned and to give comparisons with industry averages. However, a statement read: "We have a graded system of salaries that are designation-specific and reflect the experience and skills needed for the role defined. We believe our salary scales compare very favourably with those across similar industries in the UAE.
"We provide every employee with a return airline ticket after two years' service with the company. We view the welfare of our staff as the highest priority. We are meticulous in ensuring our contracts of employment are fully compliant with all statutory laws and guidelines. If any employee feels that this is not the case, we urge them to speak to the Transguard management direct."
