Dubai: The ministry of labour will continue the midday break rule which puts a halt on outdoor work from 12.30 to 3pm, from July 1 to August 30, for the fifth consecutive year, to give a respite toworkers from the soaring temperatures.
According to the ministerial decision issued yesterday, companies which do not comply will face a fine of up Dh30,000 and a ban on obtaining work permits for up to one year.
Last year, 398 companies across the UAE were caught violating the rule.
Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director General at the ministry, said this decision emphasises the protection of workers rights and their well-being as it helps them avoid working during the hottest part of the day in summer. "This year the ministry will form inspection teams across the country to ensure that companies are adhering to the rule as well as awareness campaigns for both companies and workers," said Bin Deemas.
Do you have any suggestions on how to escape the heat? What more could the authorities do to help workers?
