Banking sector keen to recruit UAE nationals
Firms in the banking sector are keen to recruit UAE national students and are confident that they will be able to meet the emiratisation target set by the ministry.
Sharjah: Firms in the banking sector are keen to recruit UAE national students and are confident that they will be able to meet the emiratisation target set by the ministry.
Companies in the banking sector with over 100 employees must meet a four per cent emiratisation quota annually.
"We have so far received a good outcome of students asking about our summer training programme, as well as students who are looking for part-time jobs," said Rafia Al Abbar, Assistant Manager for Emiratisation at Dubai Islamic Bank.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ninth National Career Exhibition at the Sharjah Expo Centre, Rafia pointed out that the bank receives applications from four students per month seeking part-time jobs and that the demand for employment in the banking industry is at an all-time high.
"By the end of 2007 we hope to achieve a target of employing 49 per cent of UAE nationals, and we are confident that we will be able to exceed that number," she said, adding that students are able to work five hours a day and are entitled to a ticket allowance.
The strong interest from students is due to the incentives offered by the banks, which pay a monthly salary along with various company benefits.
"We offer part-time jobs that cater to high-school leavers and undergraduates, and we offer a lot of opportunities for UAE national students," said Juhaina Al Fardan, Regional Manager, Diversity, at HSBC Bank Middle East.
