Children as young as five at a Dubai school have started using iPhones and iPads as part of school life

Dubai: Children as young as five at a Dubai school have started using iPhones and iPads as part of school life.
Students of GEMS Royal Dubai School are using the new School Kit App for the Apple gadgets to share classwork between peers or parents and break school news as it happens. The App also lets students run a live school website for the mobile phones and touch-screen computers and upload videos and pictures.
It's also used as a ‘hub' for a much easier use of social media networks like Twitter and Facebook.
British fifth-grader Isabella Laslett said she enjoys the new learning tools over "the old fashioned way" of textbooks alone.
Pupils who have no iPads or MacBook are provided one on campus. School ICT and Innovation Director Phil Redhead said: "It's not that much about technology but rather about giving students the freedom and ownership to explore their ideas, in their way."
The school App is a free software download published by iTunes and works on other smartphones as well.
