'Region must ensure quality of higher education'
Dubai: Academic experts called on Arab nations to ensure the quality of higher education during the 11th Conference of the Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research yesterday.
The forum, held at Zayed University's new campus in Dubai, was a two-day event that was opened by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, along with Arab Ministers, delegates and academics attended the event which tackled the issues existing in the current trends of higher education in the Arab region.
"I appreciate the strong keenness which is reflected in our meetings that are organised to benefit from our experiences and achieve the highest levels of efficiency in the region's higher education institutes. Each citizen in our country must be qualified and our national establishments must be capable of competition and achievement on a global level," Shaikh Nahyan said.
Delegates and experts also highlighted the role of globalisation in the development of higher education institutes in the Arab region.
"We have discussed globalisation in the framework of the cultural heritage of our Arab society," said Dr Al Munji Abu Senaina, director-general of the Arab League of Education, Culture and Science Organisation.
